Ehrwald is a good place to practice winter sports because of its relative snow security. It doesn't offer kilometers of ski slopes - but if you're looking for a ski area where not only experienced skiers, but also beginners and non-skiers can have fun, Ehrwald is very suitable. Modern lifts take guests up the mountains quickly and can also be used by non-skiers. The slopes are clear and offer enough choice for every level. The Sonnenhang is ideal for children and adults alike to gain their first skiing experience. On the Alm you will find a larger selection of variants and longer slopes. If you want to ski faster in between, the Wetterstein is recommended. The Zugspitze plateau, on the other hand, is at an altitude of 2900 meters and can be reached within ten minutes by car. Because these slopes are so high, you can ski there until the end of the season.
If cross-country skiing is more of an interest, the Moos Valley offers some flat trails suitable for all levels. On the Ehrwalder Alm (1500 meters) there is a high trail for more athletic cross-country skiers. If you want to go on longer cross-country tours, you can use trails that connect several villages and, if necessary, travel home by train or bus.
Ski touring has become increasingly popular lately. In Ehrwald and the surrounding area you can enjoy beautiful ski tours that take you to remote places that cannot be reached on foot. Tour evenings are organized around the Sonnenhang and the Gamsalm twice a week. You can go to the corresponding huts on touring skis or on foot, and after warming up there, you can ski or go back down to the valley on sleds and toboggans.
Hiking is also possible in Ehrwald during the winter season. Hiking trails are prepared in the flat moss and in the mountains, which can be used throughout the season. If you want to hike more alpine, you can rent snowshoes and book hikes with guides if you wish.
There are toboggan evenings twice a week on the Ehrwalder Alm. You can ski down the floodlit slope and enjoy music and food in one of the restaurants along the slope. In Lermoos and Berwang there are toboggan runs that are open during the day.
Ehrwald also operates an artificial ice rink where ice skates can be rented. A curling evening is offered once a week and ice hockey matches take place regularly at the weekend.
